Tick data in 2013

#1 Postby render8556 » Tue Mar 19, 2013 4:08 am

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has considered using tick data recently..

The main concerns i have now are:
- Tick data comes in millisecond precision now, is it even worth bothering writing a utility to feed it to forex tester?
- I downloaded a 1 month of tick data for one pair and the uncompressed archive was 500 megabytes in size. Will FT handle so many records well?

I would definitely prefer to use real tick data.. but it with many ticks often coming within one second in the raw data... maybe i should try and get used to the approximated ticks (which are genuinely not as good).

Is the expensive data service from ft any good?

Thanks.

EDIT: Say if i paid for only one month of vip data.. would i be able to download a couple of years of tick data for a few pairs during that one month? Any idea how large would the downloads be? Thanks again.

Hello,

Yes, if you buy 1 months of VIP data service then you can download a few years of data during this period of time.

Is it possible to get some information on how large the download would be for say.. 1 years worth of tick data for one pair, though the vip data service? Does the data come down in a nice compressed format or is it plain text transferred?

If the file size is reasonable id be very tempted to do so.

Thanks!

In addition.. a very key question regarding tick data would be..

What does FT do when multiple markets are used in testing, and a different number of ticks for multiple pairs is present over the course of 1 min?

It would be great to get an answer to this question.

Thanks again!

Hello,

average size of uncompressed tick file is around 500-600 MB.
But we provide data in compressed format so it is a few times smaller.

FT processes each tick from each pair which is available for testing so FT behaves like regular trading terminal which makes testing more accurate.
